Something I learned from

 Apply for Disney/Dreamworks

I am currently working on completing the form for Disney Studios. This is an ongoing process as I need to wait until I have the proper qualifications. I really need to consider getting an agent. It seems the concept artists for Disney are derived from agencies. We had an agent visit from Eye-candy and I really enjoyed seeing the work but I need to find a agency that looks for grittier work.

They have a section for more mature artwork. I was immediately contacted back when I applied and received this advice:

Too sophisticated for us- but good!

We already have similar- this is too comparable..good thoThanks for sharingTry http://www.scbwi.org  for a list of agency and advise!EdKeep illustrating your point!Check our internship program and link to us on face book we offer regularadvise there- but actually I think you are doing fine :)

I am unsure what they mean by sophisticated, adult perhaps? The link isn't very useful but I will continue to try and contact the right people. I am pleased that their response to my work was positive.

3. Contact Marie Claire

I will send out my postcards to fashion houses and magazines once I have compiled my client list. This can be ongoing; I will send out CV's and postcards twice a month until I start to hear back.

Entering 'Charitable Trust Excellence in Drawing Award'

I have just entered this competition, with my Snow White Image and will hopefully hear back from them in 2 days.

today is 30/03/14

and the deadline is tomorrow. I looked back at other winners to judge the best piece for entry and and happy with my submission.

I will log the results before hand in on Wednesday.

Digital Leaf Correspondence

I met Dustin at the London Book Fair last year and he is one of the founders of Digital leaf. He has helped me out with promoting my work, given me ideas as to how to market and improve. More specifically in children's book which is a path I am no longer going down.

I do however have a completed children's book I'd love to publish and must not rule this out. Things I have learned and gained from this correspondence:

  1. The set up of getting my work out there (sending in correct format)
  2. Understanding how to us rhyme for kids books
  3. He gave me amendments for the story and the literature of the piece and suggested I make the Illustration slightly more juvenile.

He sent me examples of his work which was similar to my own-for adults and suggested I collaborate with him. This is an ongoing process but I have been promised guidance if I ever make it to London and hopefully we can keep corresponding over our project.

More Networking

I have been send the information for an Illustration/design job in Yorkshire. Its for a card company, character/comic book based and I will be apply on Tuesday. I gave someone my card who looked up my work and sent me the information.

The London Book Fair

I will be going down on the 8th and 10th of April. On The eight I will be taking a portfolio of my comic/book graphic novel work. I will be going to show Directors my graphic novel and storyboarding style. I have already prepared a generic portfolio. Unfortunately production has stalled on my comic books and they are not yet printed because I have to complete front covers for them both. I will be sending them off to print asap. For this reason I can only show print outs of m work and go prepared with postcards and business cards. I have booked my place (free) and will be attending the art Directors surgery.
